Moonlight Benjamin
Rebellious Caribbean garage blues-rock from Haitian voodoo priestess
Vodou Garage — The Punky Voodoo Queen — The Caribbean Patti Smith.
A primal scream, a mystifying and mystical musical mixture, almost shamanic, an incantation of liberation in the midst of raging guitars and propulsive drumming. Influences: Delgres, Oumou Sangaré, The Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, Bombino, Dr John. Based in France. Touring year-round.
“A mystifying and mystical musical mixture, almost shamanic, a liberating incantation between raging guitars, a powerful voice and percussive drums, by Haiti’s punky vodou queen, Moonlight Benjamin!” — FIP Radio
As a longtime favorite of Martin Gore (Depeche Mode) and Iggy Pop, the Haitian vodou priestess Moonlight Benjamin explores the roots of blues and rock in this new opus with her African & Caribbean background. Carried by a deep and dark sound, and by the unique voice of Moonlight, influenced by Alabama Shakes, Oumou Sangaré, and Dr John, her live show is a primal scream, a mystifying and mystical musical mixture, almost shamanic, an incantation of liberation in the midst of raging guitars and propulsive drumming. A spellbound voodoo-infused garage blues rock, somewhere between Oumou Sangaré & The Black Keys.
Already 3 albums released and featured in media like Rolling Stone, Rock & Folk, MTV, The Guardian, Financial Times, The New York Times, Songlines and her own Tiny Desk video. Already 200 concerts across Europe, Australia, and the USA, including festivals and club venues.
