A unique bridge between early music repertoire and contemporary creation!

With “Amour Courtois”, pianist Baptiste Bailly brings to life masterpieces of secular medieval music from the 14th and early 15th century (Machaut, Lescurel, Binchois, Landini, Vitry, etc.). Performed by an unusual trio – piano, baritone and early instruments (oud, hurdy-gurdy, lute) – this project offers a unique encounter between heritage and contemporary creation.

“I wanted this album to be an imaginary journey into an intimate and contemporary 14th century. With Éfren López and Matthew Baker, we stopped off at a magical place: Fontfroide Abbey. Together, carried by the finesse and depth of these melodies, we sought, through our instruments and our cultures, to give rise to a gentle reverie - that of a suspended time, where the whispers of centuries past still echo.” Baptiste Bailly

Far from being a historical reconstruction, Amour Courtois highlights the timeless beauty of these melodies through original arrangements and improvisation. The performers’ freedom creates a dialogue between the Middle Ages, jazz, world music and improvised music, resulting in a sound experience that is both refined and accessible. Early music reinvented, timeless and deeply contemporary.
